Mont St. Michel

Rising dramatically out of a tidal bay in Normandy, France, the abbey of Mont St. Michel represents an extraordinary integration of town and site. Traditionally a site of pilgrimage, the town now attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. This exquisite pen and ink drawing was hung in the Gregg Museum of Art and Design, NC State University in 2004. The print is a full size Giclée reproduction on satin finished heavyweight paper.

Harborside

The Greek island town of Hydra is a picturesque collage of small dwellings clustered on a rocky outcrop. Today it is a center for tourism and a retreat for European artists and intellectuals. Its harbor is the center of activity and is filled with fishing boats and the yachts of wealthy vacationers. This superb pen and ink drawing was made for a TV series, Anatomy of the City, in 1994 and hung in the Gregg Museum of Art and Design, NC State University in 2004. The print is a full size Giclée reproduction on satin finished heavyweight paper.

Rooftops of Hydra

This drawing was inspired by the simple, cubic shapes of dwellings clustered tightly along the slopes of the Greek island town of Hydra. The kaleidoscopic texture of rooftops is broken only by narrow streets through which sunlight cascades in a symphony of shades and shadows, enhancing both the sculptural nature of the town and the clarity of its details. This finely detailed drawing was made for a TV series, Anatomy of the City, in 1994 and hung in the North Carolina Museum of Art in 1998 in a show entitled "50 Years of the School of Design". The print is full size Giclée reproduction on satin finished heavyweight paper.

Suburban Woods

Inspired by the setting winter sun in a Philadelphia suburb the scene recalls the low-density American suburbs of contemporary towns and cities. The original oil painting was produced on heavyweight canvas using a palette knife and a large square brush for texture. The painting is reproduced on finely woven heavyweight canvas with a glaze applied during the printing process to emphasize color and protect the surface. It is available as a wall hanging in two-thirds size, 40"x16", and a full size mural, 60"x24". It was hung in the Design Gallery, NC State University, in a show entitled Urban Images, April 2008. The large size makes a fine mural in a dining room, living room, or bedroom of a house, as well as a spectacular background setting for an office, conference room, or hotel.

Two-thirds size wall print, 40"x16" to edges of image, plus 2"-3" canvas surround for framing.

False Creek

When Captain George Vancouver rounded the Point Grey peninsula in British Columbia in 1792 he could not have imagined the great metropolis that would eventually grow on the wooded slopes within his vision. False Creek defines the south shore of Vancouver’s spectacular downtown area against which snow-capped peaks and high-rise buildings form the background. This exuberant painting of moored boats in False Creek captures the play of light on water, sails, and hulls, interspersed with the colors of industrial and marine activity. It was painted during the earliest years of transformation of the waterfront from an industrial and marine site to a contemporary mixed-use development. Hung in the Design Gallery, NC State University, in a show entitled Urban Images, April 2008, the print of False Creek is available as a full-size Giclée reproduction.

Prague in the Rain

A triangular plaza situated in the Staré Mêsto, or Old Town of Prague, the Uhelny market place compresses a large amount of human activity into a small space. By day it serves as an outdoor art gallery, a market selling fruit and vegetables, and a shopping precinct. By night, it serves as an entertainment venue for tourists and local citizens who visit the numerous bars, restaurants and gift shops. I was photographing the plaza when it started to rain. Just as suddenly the sun came out. In the interval my camera got wet, as did the lens. It was all over in a few seconds. This Giclée print captures both the muted colors of the medieval plaza and the brilliance of water on leaves and street surfaces. It has been digitally enhanced for color accuracy and resolution, contrast and brilliance to emphasize the reflected light on cobblestones and on the wall of yellow façade adjacent to the Mozart Apartment House on the right.
